This small set of four encaustic tiles by Minton & Co features a classic Gothic Revival design with strong ecclesiastical influences. The black and gold pattern is centred around a bold circular motif containing a stylised four-leaf fleuron or quatrefoil formed from symmetrical acanthus-like leaves. The heavy dark border surrounding the centre creates a striking focal point and gives the design its distinctive Victorian character. The corners of each tile incorporate quarter-circle elements which align with adjoining tiles to form larger repeating circles. Between these circles sit further four-leaf botanical motifs, creating a continuous interlocking pattern and an attractive geometric trellis effect. The colour palette is typical of nineteenth-century Minton encaustic tiles, combining rich chocolate brown and charcoal tones with warm buff highlights set against a contrasting cream background. The result is a bold yet balanced design that would have been equally at home in churches, entrance halls and other prestigious Victorian interiors.

A small batch ideal for repairs and patching into an existing floor. They would also make an attractive splashback, fireplace detail or decorative upstand, bringing a touch of Victorian character to a kitchen, bathroom or period interior.
