Reclaimed Wrought Iron Garden Gate

A late nineteenth to early twentieth century wrought iron gate with strong vertical form and detailed scrollwork. Three central vertical bars finish with spearhead finials. Symmetrical scrollwork surrounds them and forms heart or lyre shaped outlines within the middle panel. The top rail rises into an asymmetrical crest with large opposing scrolls and a central circular motif. One scroll appears to have been removed in the past, possibly to allow better access to the latch.

The gate retains a distressed painted surface over light rust. Areas of chipped grey paint expose the metal beneath. The finish suits garden settings where aged materials sit comfortably against brick, stone or timber fencing.
